Tom Brady Says He's Undecided On Retirement

Feb 1, 2022 10:18 AM

Tom Brady publicly said he is not yet decided on whether he will retire or continue playing in 2022.

"Sometimes it takes some time to really evaluate how you feel and what you want to do," Brady said on the latest episode of his "Let's Go!" podcast with Larry Fitzgerald and Jim Gray, released Monday. "I think when the time's right I'll be ready to make a decision one way or another, just like I said last week."

Asked if he has a timeline, Brady said: "I don't know. I'll know when the time is right. Like I've always said, I'm very blessed to play as long as I have. As things have gone on in the later parts of my career ... there's a lot of interest in when I'm going to stop playing. I understand that. When I know, I'll know. When I don't know, I don't know. I'm not going to race to some conclusion about that."

ESPN reported on Saturday that Brady has already decided to retire, but that he would not update the NFL's postseason games.

Don Yee, his agent, said in a statement Saturday sent out to media members that "I understand the advance speculation about Tom's future. Without getting into the accuracy or inaccuracy of what's being reported, Tom will be the only person to express his plans with complete accuracy. He knows the realities of the football business and planning calendar as well as anybody, so that should be soon."

Matthew Stafford Calls Super Bowl Run 'Long Time Coming'

Jan 31, 2022 8:15 AM

After spending 12 seasons with the Detroit Lions, Matthew Stafford is finally going to the Super Bowl in his first year with the Los Angeles Rams.

Stafford was 0-3 in playoff games with the Lions. He's won three postseason games to get the Rams to Super Bowl LVI this month.

"Long time coming, you know? Spent a lot of years in this league and I've loved every minute of it," Stafford said. "I feel blessed to be able to play in this league for as long as I have but I sure am happy for this opportunity for not only myself but, really, so many guys in that locker room that deserve this too. And that's what it is, it's an opportunity to go out there and win another one."

Sean  McVay was asked how Stafford has risen to the occasion this postseason.

"I think he's played like he's capable of," the coach responded. "Risen? I think he's played like we thought he would. No moment's too big for him, I can tell you that much. He's elevated everybody around him. We got one more, we know it's gonna be a great challenge."

Jimmy Garoppolo: Emotions 'Hit Pretty Hard' After Likely 49ers Finale

Jan 31, 2022 8:11 AM

The San Francisco 49ers held a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter but ended up falling 20-17 to the Los Angeles Rams in Sunday's NFC Championship Game.

Afterward, Jimmy Garoppolo admitted he was dealing with a lot of emotions in what could very well be his final game with the 49ers.

"[The emotions] hit pretty hard in the locker room," Garoppolo said. "I think these next couple of days it will really start to settle in a little bit. Emotions are high after a game win or loss, and it's one of those things you've got to be glad it happened, smile from it, and think about the good things. We'll see what happens in these next couple days, weeks, whatever, but I love this team. Just the fight and the battle in this team throughout the entire year has been really impressive. I love those guys."

San Francisco traded a second-round pick for Garoppolo in 2017 and then signed him to what was at the time a record-breaking five-year, $137.5 million contract.

Garoppolo has one year left on his contract, but the 49ers traded up to draft Trey Lance with the third overall pick last spring.

"I love Jimmy," Kyle Shanahan said. "I'm not going to sit here and make a farewell statement or anything right now. There's a lot of stuff on my mind. Jimmy has battled his ass off, he battled today and he did some unbelievable things today. I love coaching Jimmy."

Patrick Mahomes Takes Blame For Loss To Bengals

Jan 30, 2022 8:42 PM

Patrick Mahomes is taking the blame for the Kansas City Chiefs' loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship Game.

The Chiefs led 21-3 before the Bengals stormed back to win 27-24 in overtime.

Mahomes was 18-of-21 for 220 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, but he stumbled thereafter. He was just 8-of-18 for 55 yards and two interceptions while being sacked four times in the second half and overtime.

"They just had a spy on me, for the most part, and I've usually done a good job getting around that guy, but they had a good game plan," Mahomes said.

"They were doing a lot of similar stuff in the first half, we were just executing at a higher level. They stayed with it. But I mean, I gotta be better. I mean when you’re up 21-3 at one point in the game, you can’t lose it, and I put that on myself."

Vikings To Speak With Jim Harbaugh On Coaching Job

Jan 30, 2022 8:45 PM

The Minnesota Vikings have received permission to speak to Jim Harbaugh about their head coaching position.

Harbaugh has emerged as a candidate in part because of a strong relationship with new Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, with whom Harbaugh overlapped while he was the coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Adofo-Mensah worked in San Francisco's front office in research and development and worked with Harbaugh in 2013 and 2014.

Harbaugh took a pay cut after the 2-4 season, as his base salary decreased from $8 million annually to $4 million. Michigan has yet to formalize any type of new agreement with Harbaugh after the rebound in 2021.

Harbaugh reached the NFC Championship Game in three of his four seasons as head coach of the 49ers.
